Courses

What types of courses does LOQUI offer?

We offer group courses and one-to-one lessons. Our group courses are intensive courses. They last four weeks and take place every day from Monday to Thursday.

How many participants are in a group course?

A regular group course lasts 3 hours and has a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 12 participants.

If fewer than 6 people register for the course, it will last 2 hours instead.

Is there a minimum age for your courses?

Yes, there is. As our courses are designed for adults, you have to be at least 16 years old to participate.

What language is spoken in the German courses?

Our participants come from different cultural backgrounds and speak different languages. This is why we only speak German in our German courses.

How long does a group course last?

Our group courses last four weeks and take place every day from Monday to Thursday. If fewer than 6 people have registered for the course, the sessions only last 2 hours a day. If at least 6 people have registered for the course, the sessions last 3 hours a day.

Why do courses with fewer than 6 participants only last 2 hours instead of 3?

When fewer people participate in the course, we can cover the material more quickly. This makes the course more intensive; this means that every participant will have to speak more often.

One of the sessions falls on a public holiday. Will we make up for it?

No, we don't make up for sessions that fall on a public holiday.

I was ill for a couple of days and couldn't come to the course. Will I be able to make up for these days?

No, you won't be able to make up for days you've missed. What you can do is talk to your trainer and ask them what you covered during that time.

Trainers

Will I always have the same trainer during the course?

Owing to availability and illnesses, please note that it will not always be possible to have the same trainer for the entire course. Thank you for your understanding. In this case, we will ensure that the course will still take place with a qualified substitute trainer.

My trainer is ill. Will the course still take place?

Yes, it will. In these cases, we will ensure that a qualified substitute conducts the session.

Course bookings: One-to-one courses

How much does a one-to-one lesson cost?

A one to one lesson costs €50. You will have to pay for it in full before the lesson begins.

How can I book one-to-one lessons?

You can book one-to-one lessons in blocks (e.g. 3 1.5 hour lessons). We recommend booking 1.5 hours for the first lesson. You can then book additional blocks afterwards. Please note that we can only confirm one-to-one lessons that have been paid for.

Can I cancel my one-to-one lessons on short notice?

Should you have to cancel a lesson that has already been confirmed, please let us know as early in advance as possible. You can reschedule a lesson that has already been confirmed once, up to 24 hours before it begins, at no extra charge. Please let us know about the cancellation in writing.

Will I always have the same trainer for my one-to-one lessons?

Yes, you will work with the same trainer.

What happens If I don't use up the one-to-one lessons I've paid for?

Can I book the lessons first and pay for them later?

No, you can't. One-to-one lessons have to be paid for in advance.

Can I do my one-to-one lessons at home?

Exams

Which exams do you offer?

We offer ÖSD and ÖIF exams. You will find the exam dates here.

Do I have to do an exam?

No, the exams are not obligatory.

When and where do the exams take place?

The exams are always on Friday at 9 a.m. at Kolingasse 12/1, 1090 Vienna. Here are the dates for the upcoming exams.

How can I register for exams?

You will need to fill in a form and bring a valid photo ID (e.g. passport) to register. For integration exams, please also bring your residence registration form (Meldezettel) and your e-card when you register. You will also have to pay the entire exam fee when you register.

I am registered for an exam. What do I have to take with me on the day of the exam?

If you registered for a language exam, you will need to take a photo ID with you. Please note that your ID must be valid on the day of the exam and the photo must be clearly recognisable.

If you registered for an integration exam, you will need to take a photo ID, your current residence registration form (Meldezettel) and your e-card with you. Note: You will have to show the original ID on the day of the exam. We only accept valid passports, valid EU identity cards or valid Austrian driving licences. Should you not have any of these types of ID with you, you will not be allowed to sit the integration exam.

I have lost my ID. Can I still sit the exam?

No, you can't. You can only sit the exam if you have a valid photo ID with you.

What is an integration exam?

There are A2 and B1 integration exams. These exams test your knowledge of Austrian values and society in addition to your language skills. You will find examples of exam questions here.

I would like to renew my visa. Which certificate will I need?

Please ask the relevant authorities (e.g. MA 35) which exam you will need.

When will I get the results/my certificate?

You will receive your certificate around 1-2 weeks after sitting your language exam.

It may take 3-4 weeks for your certificate to arrive for an integration exam.

How are the language exams structured?

Every exam, regardless of what level it is, consists of a written and an oral part. The written part tests your reading, listening and writing skills. For the oral part, you will be tested either alone or in pairs.

I only passed one part of the language exam. What happens now?

If, for example, you only pass the oral part of the exam, you receive a certificate for your oral skills only. You then have one year to redo the written part and pass it.

Note: If you sit an integration exam and fail it, you will have to redo the entire exam. There is no option to redo individual parts of the exam.

I only passed one part of the integration exam. What happens now?

If you only pass one part of the integration exam, you will have to redo the entire exam.

Am I allowed to use a dictionary?

You are not allowed to use a dictionary for exams at the A1, A2 and B1 level. If you are doing a B2 exam, you may use monolingual or bilingual dictionaries. For C1 exams, you may only use monolingual dictionaries. You are not allowed to use online dictionaries for any other exams!

How long are ÖSD certificates valid?

ÖSD certificates are valid indefinitely. When you apply to renew your visa (A1, A2), make sure that your certificate is less than a year old!

How can I prepare for the exam?

We recommend attending a course before sitting the exam. Our courses prepare you for the exam. If you only want to focus on the exam format, you can book one-to-one lessons or attend an exam preparation course. Sample tests are available on the ÖSD website.

Do I have to do a course at LOQUI to be able to sit the exam?

No, you don't. You can just register for the exam with us.

Visa applications

I would like to apply for an Austrian Schengen visa and book several courses at the same time. Is that possible?

Yes, you can book several courses at the same time. Please let us know when you would like to begin the courses. For example, you could book 5 courses (5 months including a 2-week buffer). When you have paid for the courses, you will receive an invoice and a confirmation letter for the relevant authority (e.g. embassy).

Will I have to pay for all courses at once for my visa application?

Yes, in this case you will have to pay for all courses in advance. Should your visa application be rejected, we will certainly refund the course fees (minus a €50 processing fee). If this is the case, we will need written confirmation that your visa application has been rejected.

My visa application has been accepted. What happens next?

Please contact us as soon as you receive your visa so we can confirm when your first course will begin. As soon as you have completed the first course, we are happy to discuss which courses you can do in the future. Please note that you will have to attend the courses you have booked during the time period which appears on the invoice.

I don't want to do all the courses I booked in connection with my visa application. Is that possible?

If your visa was only issued on the condition that you do German courses, you will have to attend the courses regularly.
